WHAT THE AUDIENCE IS SAYING ABOUT OUR VERDI REQUIEM PERFORMANCE
The performance was wonderful, soloists, orchestra, chorus, directors. A great night, great music, great interpretation. A+ |
“I have never attended anything like this before in my life. I can’t begin to tell you how it affected my soul and what a profound experience it was. Very sincerely – thank you.” |
Absolutely magnificent! |
It was an exceptional performance. Both the choir and orchestra sounded great. The singers really conveyed emotion. Looking forward to next year’s performance. |
WHAT'S NEW
Look what we have planned for the upcoming seasonSummer Sings
The Octavo Singers will hold summer sings on July 21 and August 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy Schenectady Road, Niskayuna.
These informal rehearsals are open to everyone — returning and prospective members alike! At each event, we’ll sing through some of the pieces we’ve planned for our upcoming season, providing all attendees an opportunity to preview the music and giving prospective members a taste of what our regular rehearsals are like. Whether you’re a long-time member, thinking about joining, or just want to enjoy an evening of singing with others, our summer sings are for you! There will be a $5 charge to cover expenses. Fall Concert
Composed amidst the turmoil of Napoleonic Europe, Haydn’s Mass in D minor “Lord Nelson” is an operatic rollercoaster from despair to hope; “Lord Nelson” will be paired with Bernstein’s colorful Chichester Psalms, accompanied by brass, percussion, and strings, presenting a powerful setting of Hebrew psalms of struggle and compassion. Short works by Bruckner and Mendelssohn round out this emotional program.
December Concert
Handel’s Messiah is performed by Octavo Singers annually in December. Fresh and inspiring year after year, it has been an audience favorite and a treasured annual tradition for decades and is not to be missed!
Spring Concert
Truly a hidden gem of symphonic choral literature, Holst’s The Cloud Messenger is a 45-minute masterpiece based on some of the most beautiful imagery of classical India by the poet Kalidasa. Through Holst’s own evocative English translation, it tells the story of a genie exiled from paradise who, beseeching the clouds to send a message of love to his soulmate in heaven, weaves a fairytale epic of passion and devotion. Together with Brahms’ Schicksalslied, his ‘mini-requiem’, this romantic and sweeping program will be sure to stir the soul. Other short works TBD.
